Project Description
Icetech The District of Columbia Government, Office of
the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) is responsible for
the management of enterprise network services to include
WINS, DHCP, and DNS. The Server Operations project involves
the management of several domains across the DCWAN. These
domains include file and print, domain authentication servers
and agency specific WINS and DHCP servers. OCTO is in search
of a contractor to provide System Engineering services
for the Server Operations Project.
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for implementing
and managing infrastructure server moves that are part of
a D.C. Government city wide server consolidation effort.
As agencies plan to migrate there existing servers into the
datacenter this engineer will be required to provide consulting
and migration assistance. The role involves a substantial
amount to communications with other departments within OCTO
and with other agencies throughout the District so they understand
how to integrate their applications and networks into the
data center.
Place: Washington D.C. Scope of Work
Server Support :The Systems Engineer will be part of a team
responsible for maintaining 20+ servers across multiple domains,
encompassing both Windows NT and 2000 operating systems.
Duties will include data back-up and restore, user account
maintenance to include add, change, delete. System design
and consultation, patch management, system monitoring, and
virus detection and eradication. Perform LAN/Server assessments
and provide recommendations for upgrades and replacement.
Plan, design, and implement Windows NT/Windows 2000 Server
migrations across the two District data centers. Manage co-location
server farm, rack configuration, and power requirements for
the Districts 2 enterprise data centers
Enterprise Services: DHCP/WINS/DNS, Maintaining and managing
the existing DHCP scopes, WINS database and DNS entries are
among the tasks within this scope of work. The current Directory
Services initiative while not part of this scope of work
will affect these services in varying ways; this individual
must have a through understanding of Active Directory and
its association with existing services and be able to assist
the Directory Service Team with the engineering of the new
DHCP/WINS/DNS.
Develop and maintain a “Server Run Book” and
policies/procedures
Similar to the Web Developer’s Kit published by OCTO
each year, a document containing all of the architectural
standards, configuration, policies and procedures will be
created. This guide will combine all of the pertinent information
needed by agencies and developers to integrate their system
into the enterprise services, to utilize the service for
user authentication, and to exchange information between
systems. Distributing this information and ensuring agencies
and developers follow the policies is critical to the success
of many OCTO initiatives such as security/authentication
systems, seat management, software licensing, and most other
citywide services in the near future.
